Helping You Choose the Right System For Your Bunyip Home

At Direct Point Heating & Cooling, we don’t just install and disappear. Every ducted reverse cycle system we recommend is carefully designed to suit your home layout, daily lifestyle, and Melbourne’s unpredictable climate. Here’s how we make sure your system works at peak efficiency from the start:

We assess the thermal performance of your home: room sizes, orientation, insulation levels, window exposure, to determine the correct system capacity. Oversizing wastes energy; undersizing compromises comfort.

From day/night zones to isolating little-used areas, we design custom zoning layouts that align with how and when you use each space. This improves efficiency and extends system life by reducing overuse.

We map duct runs to deliver consistent airflow across all zones. This includes choosing the right duct size, placement of vents, and ensuring airflow isn’t lost through long or poorly insulated runs.

Thermostats and zone controls are placed where they’ll get accurate readings and be easy to access. We also guide you through optional smart controller upgrades for app scheduling, automation, and solar syncing.

➡️ Designing Efficient Heating & Cooling for Melbourne Homes

Perfectly Zoned for Smarter Comfort

With zone control, you don’t need to heat or cool your entire home every time. We can tailor your system to divide your house into custom comfort zones — such as:

  • Living areas and bedrooms
  • Home offices or studios
  • Guest zones or closed-off sections of the home
  • Day/night zoning for energy savings based on your routine

Each zone can be independently adjusted, allowing you to use the system only where you need it — reducing wear and power usage over time.

Quiet, Seamless, and Even Airflow

Our ducted systems are designed for low-noise operation, with the main compressor unit placed discreetly outside and ductwork concealed within the ceiling cavity or under the floor.

Air is gently delivered through stylish ceiling or floor vents, with minimal sound and even temperature distribution throughout the entire home.

You get total comfort, without the cold spots or noisy fan blasts typical of older systems.

What Makes Reverse Cycle Ducted Systems Ideal for Bunyip?

Melbourne’s climate can swing wildly between seasons — and sometimes in the same week. A ducted reverse cycle system offers fast, efficient heating in winter, and powerful cooling in summer, all controlled from a central thermostat or smart device.

It’s ideal for homes and workplaces that:

  • Need reliable comfort year-round
  • Want to replace gas with electric heating
  • Prefer unobtrusive vent placement
  • Value energy efficiency and zone control
  • Want a future-ready, rebate-eligible system

Bunyip Ducted Heating and Cooling FAQS

Got questions? We’ve answered some of the most common ones below to help you make the right choice for your home or business.

Yes. With zoning, you can heat or cool specific rooms independently. For example, you might only run the system in bedrooms at night or just in living areas during the day, which helps save energy.

It depends on your home size and usage. For larger homes or where you want seamless whole-home comfort, ducted systems are often more efficient. For small spaces or occasional use, a split system may suffice.

Reverse cycle systems provide both heating and cooling using electricity and refrigerant. They’re more energy-efficient than gas and qualify for VEU rebates when replacing older gas heating systems.

Yes, ceiling cavity space is typically needed to run ducts. In homes without roof space, underfloor ducting may be an option. We’ll assess your home and recommend the best installation method.

Most ducted installations are completed in 1–2 days, depending on the complexity. We work cleanly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption and keeping you informed throughout the process.

About Bunyip, VIC

Bunyip is a town in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, 81 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Bunyip recorded a population of 3,131 at the 2021 census. Its major road connection is via the Princes Highway. The town is named after a mythical creature, known as the Bunyip or Bunyeep, which according to legend lived in and around swampy areas. Mention of it is often found in Australian and Aboriginal mythology. == History == === Before European settlement === The Koo-Wee-Rup and Bunyip areas, among others, are considered to be places of importance to many Aboriginal people in Victoria, particularly the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation, the traditional owners of the area, from whom the word Bunyeep is derived. They believe the Bunyip is a spiritual being which lives near water and preys on humans who come too near. === 1800-1850 === The Kooweerup Swamp comprised a region of some 6,000 acres (24 km2) stretching from Sawtells Inlet on Westernport Bay to the township of Bunyip in the north-east. The marsh like area was formed by the waters of the many rivers which flow down from the surrounding high country and which often created impenetrable swamplands. The first settlers had great difficulty in cultivating the land because of the dense stands of giant Melaleuca, or tea-tree, large Eucalyptus and Acacia melanoxylon, or blackwood trees, which lay under the surface. In 1827 William Hovell attempted to cross the swamp but found the scrub to be an impenetrable wilderness. He was impressed by the country, and those areas which were workable held some promise for future development.
